Homosexuality is an unnatural act and cannot be supported: BJP
However, the Congress has raised concern over the Supreme Court order on Secion 377 by calling it regressive and unfortunate.

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has finally made its stand clear on Section 377 and has come out strongly in support of Section 377.

"We will state that we support Section 377 because we believe that homosexuality is an unnatural act and cannot be supported." party chief Rajnath Singh said while speaking to the Telegraph.

Earlier, BJP's Gorakhpur MP Yogi Adityanath had said he will oppose any move to change the law. "I welcome the Supreme Court verdict. When the Bill is brought in Parliament, I will oppose it. I oppose any move to decriminalise homosexuality and endorse Ramdev's comments," he said.

However, ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, the Congress is playing safe on the matter. Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, party vice president Rahul Gandhi, Finance Minister P Chidambaram and Law and Justice Minister Kapil Sibal have also raised concern over the Supreme Court order by calling it regressive and unfortunate.

Upholding Indian Penal Code Section 377 and setting aside the Delhi High Court ruling that decriminalised homosexuality, the Supreme Court passed a ruling making gay sex illegal. While the decision invoked angry reactions from the LGBT community, religious groups hailed the verdict.

The Coalition for Sex Workers and Sexual Minorities Rights (CSMR) expressed their disappointment and said the decision was deeply disappointing.

Meanwhile, the Centre is likely to go for a review petition or curative petition over the apex court order which upheld Indian Penal Code Section 377 and criminalised gay sex.
