New Delhi: Putting all speculation to rest, HRD Minister Kapil Sibal will be given telecom portfolio after A Raja's exit, reports CNBC-TV18.

Sibal was also handed over the Science and Technology ministry after Prithviraj Chauhan moved to Mumbai as the Maharashtra Chief Minister.

This is going to be a crucial change in tack from the Congress party with a Congressman coming into the telecom ministry for the first time after Sukh Ram. By itself this is a very significant development.

The murkiness in telecom has always continued. With Sibal being brought into the ministry, the Congress is sending out a signal that it will try and restore the image of this ministry. Clearly, it is a very difficult task that is cut out for Sibal.
