K'taka Governor doubts JD(S)-BJP experiment
CNN-IBN gets exclusive access to Rameshwar Thakur's report.

New Delhi: The Karnataka Governor has told the Centre the JD(S) and the BJP command a majority in the Karnataka Assembly but doubts whether the two-party coalition can provide a stable government.

CNN-IBN has got exclusive access to Rameshwar Thakur's report, which says the Assembly cannot be dissolved because the two parties command a majority.

Thakur's report, which was sent to President Pratibha Patil on October 31, says constitutionally there is no bar on the JD(S)-BJP coalition coming back to power but recommends an investigation into the charges the two parties leveled against each other after their first government fell on October 9.

Thakur, in his report, has also referred to the petitions received by him from political leaders since October 7, the day BJP withdrew support to the JD(S)-led government.

He has also mentioned the requests made by political leaders, including JD(S) chief H D Devegowda and the Congress, to dissolve the Assembly after the coalition government resigned.

Thakur has annexed copies of advertisements by BJP and JD(S), after they ended their partnership and accused each other of betrayal.

Thakur on Tuesday met Home Minister Shivraj Patil and briefed him about the situation in the state. The two parties claim they have 129 MLAs to form a government led by BJP leader B S Yediyurappa.

The BJP plans to parade before President Pratibha Patil 129 MLAs supporting this evening to form the government in the state. The BJP on October 31 staged a dharna in Bangalore to put pressure on the Governor to invite it to form a government in support with the JD(S).

The JD(S)/BJP coalition fell apart on October 7—only to come together again— when JD(S) chief minister H D Kumaraswamy refused to give up the post for the BJP after 20 months in accordance with the agreement between the two parties. The state is now under President's rule and the assembly has been kept in limbo.
