Kolkata: Mamata Banerjee, who took oath as a Union Cabinet Minister, was very 'stubborn' in her childhood days, her mother said on Friday.
''She was very stubborn. She used to do whatever she pledged,'' Gayatri Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress supremo's mother, told reporters.
While watching the repeat telecast of the swearing-in ceremony on television screen at their Kalighat residence, Gayatri Banerjee said her daughter was destined to work for the people and she would be happy, if she (Mamata) continued to do so.
''She does not want to remain indoors. She is there to work for the people. Let my daughter do good for Bengal,'' she said.
In reply to a question whether she had regrets over her daughter not having settled down with a family of her own, Gayatri Banerjee replied in the negative. ''She (Mamata) says her brothers are everything to her. She loves them very much. She also loves the sister-in-laws,'' she said.
Trinamool Congress activists meanwhile, celebrated the day by bursting fire crackers near Mamata Banerjee's residence and elsewhere in the city. A giant screen was put up by the party at the downtown Chowringhee area to enable the people to watch the swearing-in-ceremony.
