New Delhi: Protests by MPs belonging to the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh over carving out a new state led to the Lok Sabha being adjourned till 12 noon on Monday. Parliament resumed for the second half of the Budget Session after a three-week long recess on Tuesday, but the constant slogan shouting by MPs from Telangana forced Speaker Meira Kumar to adjourn the Lok Sabha.
The Opposition is likely to raise Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi CD controversy in Parliament and cause further delay over several crucial bills pending in Parliament. Even though Singhvi resigned as the chairperson of Parliament Standing Committee on Law and Justice and as the Congress spokesperson following the CD controversy, the Opposition particularly the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is insisting on an explanation from the government.
Facing flak for the slow pace of economic reforms, the government is planning to bring in three key finance sector reforms and the priority is to get the Finance Bill cleared. There are 39 Bills including the anti-corruption Lokpal and Lokayukta Bill pending approval.
The Opposition has planned to target the government on policy paralysis, Naxal violence and defence-related corruption allegations.
