Mumbai: Soon after Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis finished his roaring speech at the widely publicised Tiranga rally, women scurried to find their leader.
They gathered their children, held on to each other's dupattas or pallus, and started walking in groups.
Just minutes ago, Fadnavis had hailed the same people and had showcased them to the media as a proof of the wide public support to BJP.
"Eighteen political parties came together for the Sanvidhan bachao rally today. But they couldn't gather 1800 people in their support. And look here. Despite being a last minute event, there is no empty space on this ground today. People are with the BJP," he said.
Within 15 minutes following Fadnavis's speech, local group leaders were seen shouting area names outside Kamgar Maidan, to gather their bus crowd in one place. "Kandivali! Kandivali! Kandivali!" a team leader was seen shouting like a bus conductor.
Some others were seen frantically calling the bus driver to know where the vehicle was parked. From the looks of it, it didn't look like the crowd had gathered impromptu.
"Oh! We are all BJP local activists. We have all come together in a hired bus from Bhandup," a local party leader said. Another woman said they had all left home early in the day, and were given only a wada-paav for lunch.
The Tiranga rally, organised at the last minute by Maharashtra BJP to counter Sanvidhan bachao rally by 18 opposition parties, yet again showcased BJP's event management skills.
Meanwhile, CM Devendra Fadnavis claimed that Tiranga ekta Yatra was held successfully at 2000 places in the entire State.
"When politicians go out of power, they are reminded of the Constitution. Otherwise, when they are in power, they plunder the country under oath of Constitution. I have come here to bow down before the Constitution," he said.
Addressing the opposition parties, he asked, "Who are you to save the Constitution? The power of the Constitution is such that it doesn't require you to protect it. Nobody can finish this Constitution. Nobody can break it. All those who tried to break this Constitution, were taught an apt lesson by the people of the country. Indira Gandhi had brought in emergency. She was defeated, her existence wiped out in 1978 elections. Constitution showed her rightful place."
He claimed that the Sanvidhan bachao rally was in fact a Party-bachao rally by opposition. "Because they are scared of Modi. Because of the power of Babasaheb's Constitution, an OBC tea seller has become a PM. People can't tolerate it. But you will have to tolerate it, and see it," he said.
