New Delhi: The Congress parliamentary party will meet on Tuesday to formally elect its leaders.
Manmohan Singh, who is already the Prime Ministerial candidate of the Congress retained that position, while Sonia Gandhi was formally re-elected as the AICC president. After the meet, the Congress in consultation with their pre-poll allies will decide on the various cabinet protfolios.
These technical requirements are to be met to take forward the process for formation of the new government in Delhi.
The CPP meeting starts at 1100 hrs IST in the central hall of Parliament. Manmohan Singh cabinet had resigned on Monday.
No discussion of cabinets takes place in the CPP, which is a technical and constitutional requirement of the party.
WHO GETS WHAT P Chidambaram is likely to continue as Home Minister. But the two faces unlikely to be part of the cabinet are Arjun Singh and A R Antulay.
Among the young leaders likely to have a cabinet role are Jitin Prasada, Sachin Pilot and Sandeep Dikshit
The cabinet is also likely to see three Dalit leaders -- Mallikarjun Kharge, Meira Kumar and Sushil Kumar Shinde.
Sources say Kapil Sibal could be the HRD minister while Anand Sharma could be I and B minister.
There will be a strong minority representation too. Salman Khursheed and Ghulam Nabi Azad among the front-runners here..
Political debutant Shashi Tharoor too could also get a ministerial berth.
Among the allies.. Farooq Abdullah from the National Conference is a certainty, the DMK will also get two Cabinet ministries - one of whom will be Karunanidhi's son, MK Azhagiri and his daughter Kanimozhi
At least two Cabinet berths are assured for the Trinamool Congress but it’s not certain who the persons will be.
