The Bharatiya Janata Party is gearing up to celebrate its foundation day on April 6 in the midst of election season as the country prepares for phase 1 of polling on April 1.
The party has issued an official circular to its office bearers — right from the central leadership to the teams on ground working at the booth level — detailing the various programmes that need to be conducted to celebrate the foundation day.
Keeping in mind the upcoming elections, the central theme of this year’s celebration is to make voters aware of the work done by the Narendra Modi-led Union government in the last one decade. The message that needs to be sent is that the government will come back with a defining majority in 2024.
“Each worker on ground, who is busy gearing up for the election, needs to take a resolve that the party must come back with a decisive mandate. ‘Abki Baar 400 Paar’ and ‘Phir Ek Baar Modi Sarkar’ are what we need to work on,” the circular issued by the party says.
So far as the programmes for the foundation day are concerned, they will be held at multiple levels — national, state, district, and up to the booth level.
Leaders have been encouraged to fly the party flag at their homes and party offices across the entire country. Apart from this, the party leaders need to organise small processions and bike rallies across the country.
A special outreach also needs to be made to the intellectuals and prominent citizens across the country to tell them about the work that has been done by the Modi government for various strata of society in fields like education and culture.
Party leaders will also need to reach out to the various beneficiaries of central government schemes and provide them a deep insight of the long-term vision of the BJP.
Apart from this, they are required to reach out to old party workers and seniors who have contributed towards strengthening the party over the years and felicitate them. The party leaders will need to send a report of the programmes organised by them to the party headquarters also.
It is expected that given the occasion, top leaders of the party — including senior ministers — may be present at multiple programmes across various states. PM Modi is also likely to send a message to the ‘karyakartas’ on the foundation day.
Formed on April 6, 1980, the BJP is the world’s largest party at present. The origins of the party date back to the Bharatiya Jan Sangh, which was formed in 1951 by Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. Over the years, the party has had big names as its president, including former deputy prime minister LK Advani, Dr Murli Manohar Joshi, Venkaiah Naidu, Nitin Gadkari, Rajnath Singh and Amit Shah. At present, JP Nadda is the national president of the party.
