New Delhi: Delhi government on Wednesday claimed that its planned expenditure during financial year 2015-16 was highest in the last four years.
The Aam Aadmi Party government also said that tax collection was increased by 13.6 per cent despite no increase in Value Added Tax (VAT).
Opposition leader in Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta had criticised the AAP dispensation for having "failed" to spend under plan head when Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was presenting the 2016-17 budget in the House.
In 2015-16, the Delhi government had budgeted to spend Rs 41,129 crore, out of which Rs 19,000 crore was under the plan head.
Releasing the final statistics on the status of Plan Expenditure and Revenue Collection for the financial year 2015-16, the Delhi government said plan expenditure of Rs 14,965 crore is the highest during the last four financial years.
"An amount of Rs 14,965 crore was spent under Plan during 2015-16. The regular Budget was approved in June 2015 and most of the works were actually taken up from July 2015 onwards," government said in a statement.
It further stated that the Plan expenditure during the last four years was within the range of Rs 13,422 crore to Rs 14,271 crore.
State government was also able to register record tax collection during the last financial year. The growth in tax collection during 2015-16 is 13.6% as compared to 2.6% in 2014-15 and 10.6% in 2013-14, the statement said.
The total tax collection during 2015-16 is Rs 30,225 crore which is 96.4% of revised estimates of tax collection of Rs 31,370 crore.
In the statement, government added that the collection under Stamps & Registration Fees during 2015-16 is Rs 3,434 crore with a growth of 20.8% over the previous year collection of Rs 2842 crore.
Similarly in case of State Excise, the total collection in 2015-16 is Rs 4,238 crore with a growth of 23.8% over previous year. The growth in 2014-15 in State Excise was 8.6% and 9.8% in 2013-14.
