Police deny permission for Gowda's dharna
Former Prime Minister HD Devegowda said if situation warrants he will resort to indefinite dharna.

Bangalore: Police on Sunday denied permission to former Prime Minister HD Devegowda to stage a day-long dharna in front of Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa's official residence on Monday.

Devegowda had planned the dharna against alleged non-release of funds for developmental works in his Lok Sabha constituency of Hassan district.

Bangalore City Police Commissioner, Jyotiprakash Mirji, in a letter addressed to Gowda, informed the JD(S) supreme that permission cannot be granted for him to hold dharna in front of Chief Minister's residence, but they could allow the same elsewhere.

Mirji has suggested that Gowda could stage the dharna at Freedom Park, Mahatma Gandhi statue near Ananda Rao Circle or at Mahatma Gandhi statue near the Chinnaswamy cricket stadium, police said.

Meanwhile an infuriated Gowda, asserted that he was firm on holding the dharna before Yeddyurappa's residence and would continue it till the Chief Minister meets him to hear problems of Hassan district.

"If situation warrants I will resort to indefinite dharna," said Gowda.

"There is no question of going back on my dharna. I am also aware of the legal issues. My dharna will not create any law and order problem", Gowda told reporters.

Yeddyurappa is away in Dakshina Kannada district, where he will visit the famous Dharmasthala temple and later Kukke Subramanya, another pilgrim town to launch various development works.
