Selja, who has been nominated as a candidate in the Rajya Sabha elections, quit the Union Council of Ministers to work for the Congress.
New Delhi: Railway Minister Mallikarjun Kharge was on Tuesday night given additional charge of Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry following the resignation of Kumari Selja.
President Pranab Mukherjee, as advised by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, accepted the Selja's resignation with immediate effect, Rashtrapati Bhawan spokesperson said.
Selja, who has been nominated as a candidate in the Rajya Sabha elections, quit the Union Council of Ministers to work for the Congress.
