New Delhi: Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi will enter the political battlefield for Delhi Assembly elections on Tuesday with a roadshow in the national capital.
The roadshow will begin from Transit Camp in Kalkaji Assembly constituency. Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee chief Arvinder Singh Lovely, former MP Ramesh Kumar, Kalkaji candidate Subhash Chopra and nominees of a few other constituencies will accompany Rahul.
Kalkaji seat which was the stronghold of Congress saw Shiromani Akali Dal making inroads in the 2013 polls. SAD leader Harmeet Singh Kalka contesting on the Bharatiya Janata Party symbol won from Kalkaji in 2013.
This year as well a close fight is expected between BJP and Aam Aadmi Party candidate Avtar Singh Kalka.
Congress has witnessed a massive downfall since December 2013 polls and experienced its worst ever performance in Lok Sabha elections as it managed to win only 44 seats.
After ruling Delhi for 15 years, the Congress won only 8 seats in the 2013 elections. The Aam Aadmi Party stole the show by winning 28 seats and BJP-SAD won 32 seats.
Polls were necessitated in the national capital as the term of President's Rule is due to expire in February. The AAP formed the government with the outside of the Congress in December 2013 but served only for 49 days. Delhi was put under President's Rule as no party staked claim to form the government.
