‘Such Arrogance Was Last Seen in Mahabharata’: Shiv Sena Targets Modi-Shah After Poll Drubbing
The Sena praised Congress president Rahul Gandhi for his politeness. “He said we will defeat BJP in 2019 too. But we won’t call for BJP-mukt Hindustan. This politeness answers how the Gandhis weathered so many storms and how democracy survived despite so many attacks.”

Mumbai: The Shiv Sena has continued its attack on the BJP after the party’s poor showing in the Assembly elections. The Uddhav Thackeray-led outfit said the arrogance shown by the Modi-Shah duo was last seen in the Mahabharata.

“Rahul Gandhi accepted his victory with politeness. He thanked the CMs in BJP-ruled States. But Modi isn’t willing to accept the contribution of Pandit Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi in nation-building. He doesn’t even accept LK Advani and other leaders’ contribution in building BJP. Such arrogance was seen only in Mahabharata, and was defeated even then,” said the editorial published on Thursday.

The Sena praised Congress president Rahul Gandhi for his politeness. “He said we will defeat BJP in 2019 too. But we won’t call for BJP-mukt Hindustan. This politeness answers how the Gandhis weathered so many storms and how democracy survived despite so many attacks.”

The BJP lost its governments to Congress in the Hindi heartland states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh in the just concluded polls.

BJP’s warring ally targeted both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party chief Amit Shah saying that workers believed that “Modi was Vishnu's 13th incarnation and Shah a true Chanakya”.

“This arrogance has finally been defeated. Modi finally said that that the BJP accepts people's mandate, and that it is their culture to accept defeat with politeness. But this culture and politeness were lost after the 2014 elections,” the editorial added.

Sena also put the onus on PM Modi for the defeat in the assembly polls and said blaming the local leadership was pointless. “Modi hit the field with the entire cabinet. He launched personal, vicous attacks on Rahul Gandhi. Modi was under the impression that he is the 'be-all' of the country. Who is Gandhi? Who is Badal? Who is Thackeray? Who are people? But the powerful people of this counrty have defeated this ego.”

The Sena had Wednesday also taken a swipe at the BJP over its poll drubbing, saying people have brought "those flying in the air back to the ground". Uddhav Thackeray had on Tuesday said voters rejected those they did not want and lauded their "courage" for showing the way forward to the country.
