Mumbai: Maharashtra Revenue Minister Narayan Rane, a former Shiv Sena leader, on Friday alleged party executive president Uddhav Thackeray had ordered an attack on singer Sonu Nigam and politician Chhagan Bhujbal.
"The assault on Nigam and bureaucrat Sadashiv Tinaikar was ordered in my presence," Rane said after Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray alleged that the minister had stolen funds when he was in the party.
"Uddhav also ordered an assault on former Sena leader Chhagan Bhujbal and former Sena minister Suresh Nawle. The orders to assault Nigam and Tinaikar were not implemented," Rane was quoted by PTI as saying.
"Bal Thackeray's charisma is over," he said. "The Sena chief, who now talks about my alleged criminal past, has forgotten that it was he who made me chief minister"
"He now says I betrayed the Sena. On July 1, 2005, he praised me as a loyal Sena worker," Rane said when asked to comment on Bal Thackeray’s interview to Saamna.
Rane was expelled from the Sena two days later and he later joined Congress government.
Rane said would sue Saamna for "slanderous articles against him". Bal Thackeray in an interview to the Sena paper has alleged that his estranged nephew Raj Thackeray and Rane had stolen party funds.
