Lucknow: A Samajwadi Party leader and his supporters opened fire after winning the panchayat elections in Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh. The firing took place when Samajwadi Party workers were taking out a victory procession. The workers even forcefully occupied a police vehicle and took it along with them in the procession while the police personnel watched helplessly.
The procession was taken out following the victory of Samajwadi Party leader Manish Chauhan, who is the son of former minister Virendra Singh. Then Samajwadi Party leaders and his supporters waved their guns and opened fire to celebrate the win even as police stood as mute spectators. The supporters also climbed atop a vehicle belonging to the ASP and opened fire, revealing the deteriorating law and order in the state.
The police later confiscated one vehicle and claimed to have recovered a rifle and country-made pistol from it. This is not the only case and such firing incidents have happened many times since Akhilesh Yadav took over as the Chief Minister after the Samajwadi Party won the Assembly elections in 2012.
