Foremost is Sreesanth, who is likely to be fielded by the BJP in Tripunithara against the Congress's former Excise Minister K Babu.

In a break from tradition, Kerala is likely to see many celebrities, filmstars and sports personalities making their electoral debut in the Assembly polls. Foremost is Sreesanth, who is likely to be fielded by the BJP in Tripunithara against the Congress's former Excise Minister K Babu. A formal announcement in this regard is likely to be taken on Wednesday.

From the cult classic movie of the early nineties, In Harihar Nagar, all four lead actors are likely to be fielded by one political party or another.

The CPM has approached actor Mukesh to be its candidate from Eravipuram constituency in Kollam. Actor Jagadish may be fielded by the Congress from Pathanapuram. If this materialises, then he will be pitted against former state transport minister and former actor KB Ganesh Kumar.

Another lead from the same movie, actor Siddique, has been approached by the Congress to contest in Aroor.

Not to be left behind, the fourth lead in that movie Ashokan has also expressed his willingness to contest elections. He is likely to be fielded by the CPI in Haripad against incumbent Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala.

Earlier, the CPM had planned to field veteran actress KPAC Lalitha from Wadakkancherry, but there were protests by CPM workers which led to Lalitha withdrawing herself from the fray citing health reasons.

This is an interesting new trend in Kerala of filmstars and sportspersons jumping into elections, unlike in neighbouring Tamil Nadu or Andhra Pradesh where this has been the norm for years.
