Mahua Moitra is no stranger to corporate culture. A former investment banker with JP Morgan, Moitra worked in New York and London before she made her foray into politics. As the Lok Sabha polls approach, the firebrand leader is firming up her election strategy with a team of young professionals.
Moitra has her personal war room and a call centre — both handled by a team of 6-10 people — to track every detail of her constituency.
Speaking to News18, the leader said: “I believe everything should be planned and that’s how things work. You may say I have got this attitude from working in the corporate sector. I have divided all the election work.”
The team say Moitra is a hard taskmaster. As one enters the war room, the discipline is hard to miss. A board details all the tasks of the day — put up a social media post, call the management and gather political intelligence.
Himadri, who works in the TMC leader’s team, said: “We call up booth leaders and take feedback apart from putting up social media posts. She is a perfectionist and wants perfect work.”
There are more than 1,800 booths in Krishnanagar, Moitra’s constituency. “There are various phases of election campaign, just like an exam, so we plan accordingly. We also take feedback,” said Moitra.
Moitra won the last elections with almost 45 per cent votes. The leader says she sets targets for her booth workers to increase their lead in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
The leader said she was confident that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s work and her own effort this time would ensure an increased margin. Rubbishing several allegations by the BJP against her, Moitra said she was not bothered by the attacks as her only aim was to increase her margin of victory.
