Mumbai: Apple CEO Tim Cook's maiden trip to India after taking over as the company chief has kicked off and the nation's tech industry is awaiting a host of new announcements that could prove beneficial to all. Today, the company has announced a new initiative to support engineering talent and push for growth in India's iOS developer community.
Apple will establish an iOS App Design and Development Accelerator in Bengaluru where specialised support and training will be provided to the tens of thousands of iOS developers in India.
The team will work to instruct developers on best practices, help them hone their skills and transform the design, quality and performance of their apps on the iOS platform.
CEO Tim Cook said, "India is home to one of the most vibrant and entrepreneurial iOS development communities in the world."
He further added, "With the opening of this new facility in Bengaluru, we’re giving developers access to tools which will help them create innovative apps for customers around the world."
The facility will have Apple experts who will lead briefings and provide one-on-one app reviews for developers every week. It will further provide support and guidance on Swift - Apple’s powerful and intuitive programming language created to build apps for iOS, Mac, Apple TV and Apple Watch.
Meanwhile, Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal said, "Apple’s support will help drive growth and accelerate progress among the country’s vast talent pool."
Snapdeal co-founder Kunal Bahl said that Apple's local presence will amplify the shopping portal's efforts to develop high-quality apps for its digital commerce ecosystem.
The iOS App Design and Development Accelerator is expected to open in early 2017.
