British Couple Leaves Jobs To Sail Out Life On Yacht With Children
The couple, Laura and Ross Colledge, felt their family was disconnected and needed a change.

Going on a cruise for months is a common occurrence, chosen by many people to spend time on the seas. But this British couple chose to quit living on land altogether to start a life on the water. Thanks to their yacht-cum-home.

The New York Post reports that Laura and Ross Colledge from Britain felt “too disconnected” as a family, prompting them to take to the seas. Wife Laura revealed that her husband worked more than 50 hours a week and felt he could not get involved much in his children’s upbringing. She says, “He felt our children’s formative years were slipping away before our eyes and he was missing so much.”

They wanted to give their children “an exciting, adventurous, non-consumerist upbringing” to their children “to make them more worldly.” They did this without compromising their children’s educational needs. As per more reports, one of their sons was diagnosed with ADHD and is suspected to be a high-functioning autistic.

So, to start their life on the seas they remortgaged their renovated property and bought a 2005 Bavaria 42 yacht. Then during the 2019 summer, they moved to Greece to start their sea journey from Mykonos.

From Mykonos, the family sailed through the Aegean and Dodecanese islands to settle in the Ionian Islands. Talking about their old life, Laura revealed, “We have both been water babies as surfers and kayakers in Newquay for many years, so the ocean has always drawn us in.”

They have been on the Greek water for five years, loving their unconventional and unpredictable lifestyle. According to Laura, it is challenging to stay on a routine. They have to adapt to changes like a chameleon, as the weather can change drastically in no time.

Husband Ross has taken the role of the captain while Laura is the first mate. According to more information, they are directors of a health and fitness site, BoatFit. Their eldest son, Josh, is admitted to an online secondary school while their youngest, Noah, is being homeschooled.
