A renowned education influencer in China has been facing backlash on social media after she used stern methods for disciplining her students. Zhao Juying has turned out to be a popular name in China in the sector of online education. The 55-year-old education influencer has orthodox ways of disciplining and motivating students. In many of her videos, she can be seen physically punishing them. This has stirred up the internet, with many questioning her old-school methods of teaching. Despite all the criticism, Zhao has gained a lot of popularity, with more than 300,000 followers on the social media platform Douyin. Zhou even travels all around the country to discipline students using her own methods.
As reported by the South China Morning Post, Zhao Juying rose in popularity after she participated in an education-based reality show for Douyin, which is China’s version of TikTok. In the show, she used to be called on by parents all across China to discipline their teenage children and explain to them the importance of studying. However, a recent clip took a drastic turn as she was slammed for being too aggressive in motivating students. In a recent clip uploaded by her on Douyin, Zhao can be seen criticising a young student named Huang on her home visit. Zhao asks him to gather all his favourite car and toy collections and then smash them with a hammer.
She was also seen slapping the boy’s palm and torso with a bamboo stick. The education influencer was also seen saying, “Will these toys help you improve your math or English grades? If you fail to get into high school, you won’t even get a chance to sit the university entrance exams. No girls who have been to a good university will marry you?”. In another video, she was also seen criticising the child for being too childish and even asking him to tear up his comics.
Zhao found her own way of motivating students to study harder by going for a stricter approach. She believes that she can rapidly improve a child’s academic performance just through her home visits and that education is incomplete without punishment. Her recent clips attracted a lot of attention on social media, with people criticising her style of imparting education.
