‘Gurugram Is Not For Beginners’: Delivery Agent Swims To Safety After Falling Into Road Cave-In
The portion of the road caved in following heavy rains and waterlogging in Gurugram.

Over the past few days, Gurugram has been experiencing significant waterlogging and traffic congestion following heavy rains. While the downpour has led to severe disruptions, it has also deteriorated the road conditions across the city, causing more inconvenience to daily commuters. In a dramatic situation, a section of a road collapsed in Gurugram, trapping a young delivery agent in the depression. In videos going viral on the internet, the portion of the road could be seen filled with muddy rainwater with a JCB trying to pull out the delivery agent’s bike.

According to the Times of India, the delivery agent was on his way when his bike got caught in the caved-in portion, and he instantly fell inside. While he managed to swim back to safety, his bike was later retrieved with the help of emergency services. “A portion of Basai road caved in, and a youth along with his bike fell in it. He was rescued on time. The road cave in at the same spot for the third time in recent months,” a user wrote while sharing the video on social media.

Said to be a third incident in the same location, this has once again highlighted the growing issues with the city’s infrastructure and inadequacy of maintenance efforts. Earlier in July, a wheel of a bus carrying students got stuck on the road after a part of the Gurugram-Sohna elevated flyover caved in. While a major accident was avoided, another bus was used to pull the vehicle out.

Social media users also reacted to the video and expressed concerns. A user wrote, “That’s concerning. Safety measures need to be improved to prevent such incidents. Thanks for sharing about the patal lok in Gurgaon, quite a unique observation there.”

Another commented, “Same will happen opp. 1237 sector 15 sonipat Big tree on main sewer line grown-up needs to be uprooted.”

“Must be at least 10 feet deep. We can keep this as a swimming pool on the road,” a user sarcastically commented.

Meanwhile, the heavy rainfall on Friday morning has further compounded the city’s problems, bringing several areas to a standstill just before the rush hour. Reports of waterlogging have emerged from various locations, prompting the GMDA and MCG teams to focus their efforts on addressing the affected areas.
