Indian Accent, Masque Are On The World's Best Restaurants List
Mumbai's Masque and Indian Accent from New Delhi have made it to the list of World's Best Restaurants 2024.

Over time, Indian restaurants have witnessed tremendous popularity across the world, thanks to the burgeoning admiration for Indian cuisine. From the influence of Indian chefs on the global stage to India’s spice market growth and, of course, the boom in culinary tourism in the past decades, all of these have contributed to the redefinition of the Indian food scene. Once again cementing their position worldwide, two Indian restaurants have made it to the list of the World’s Best Restaurants for 2024. Listed by the William Reed media company, the World’s 50 Best recently unveiled an extended list of the best restaurants, ranking from 51 to 100.

While Le Calandre bags the highest rank of 51, a Mumbai-based restaurant and another one from New Delhi have made it to the list as well.

Indian Restaurants On World’s Best List

Going by the extended list, India found representation with Masque, Mumbai, on the 78th spot, and Indian Accent, Delhi, on the 89th spot. Both restaurants have been lauded for their innovative approaches to Indian cuisine and indigenous produce.

Notably, while Masque comes as a new entry to the list, it has already earned a lot of accolades in the past, remaining quite a regular in the list of best restaurant lists in Asia, Conceptualised by Aditi Dugar in 2016 and helmed by founding chef Prateek Sadhu until 2022, the Mumbai-based restaurant has been dubbed as “arguably India’s most forward-thinking restaurant.”

On the other hand, Indian Accent makes a re-entry this year. Backed by chef Manish Mehrotra, it has been declared the best restaurant in India for seven consecutive years from 2015 to 2021. Hailing it for “raising the bar of Indian contemporary cuisine,” the World’s 50 Best adds, “With a winning combination of creative, modern dishes and warm hospitality, season after season, chef Manish Mehrotra’s inventive tasting menus have played judiciously with his country’s palate to craft unique takes on Indian classics,” states an NDTV report.

Notably, the final list of the World’s Best Restaurants 2024 will be announced live at the awards ceremony in Las Vegas on June 5, 2024. Prior to this, four Indian restaurants were listed on NYC’s Top 100 for 2024. Seema Restaurant, Dhamaka, Temple Canteen, and Hyderabadi Zaika; all based in foreign lands were listed for their cuisine and flavour that remains popular.
