People are always afraid of insects crawling on them, but what if something entered their bodies? Doesn’t that sound like a nightmare? The video, which was posted on X (formally Twitter) via the handle – Oddly Terrifying, begins with a man lying down, setting the stage for a bizarre and spine-chilling scene. In the following frames, another person is seen injecting a liquid into the ear with a needle-less injection syringe. As the liquid takes effect, a live spider emerges from the man’s ear, terrifying and fascinating viewers. “Look at what comes out of this guy’s ear,” the video was captioned.

This video quickly went viral and sparked a social media storm as users shared their reactions to this spine-tingling viral video. One user wrote, “How could the spider manage to get there?” while another commented, “I’m not sleeping tonight. Or ever again.” A third person said, “Many years ago, I had an insect fly into my ear. I put my ear under the light to get it out.” The fourth user expressed a relatable fear stating “Whenever my ear itches at night, this is what I think is going on.” Meanwhile, a fifth user shared a similar experience, narrating, “This EXACT thing happened today when I had a patient who said he had ‘something in his ear’. As soon as I popped the otoscope in, out she ran.”

When we consider all of the responses together, we can see how frightening and creepy unexpected encounters with creatures in our ears can be for everyone.

In 2023, a 64-year-old Taiwanese woman was shocked when doctors discovered a small spider crawling inside her ear after she had been unable to sleep for several nights due to hearing unusual sounds in her left ear. The cause of the problem was discovered when the woman went to a nearby clinic. Fortunately, her eardrum was unharmed. The spider and its exoskeleton were suctioned out by the doctors using a tube.

The woman’s experience was also documented in a case report that the doctors submitted to the New England Journal of Medicine.
