Lost Dog's Incredible 9-Month Journey Ends With Emotional Reunion
Police in Michigan received a call about a stray dog and soon they captured Mishka, the dog and discovered her owner's information from her collar.

In a heartwarming tale of reunion, a dog missing from California, US, found her way back to her owners nearly nine months later and over 3000 km away from home. Mishka, a terrier mix, vanished from San Diego in mid-July last year, leaving her owners disheartened. Despite their efforts to locate her through social media, unfortunately, they couldn’t find any leads. However, just before Easter, police in suburban Detroit, Michigan, received a call about a stray dog. Soon a police unit captured the furry wanderer and reached out to The Grosse Pointe Animal Adoption Society (GPAAS) for assistance. Upon scanning Mishka’s microchip, they discovered her owner’s information, who was based in San Diego. It was a lucky day for Mehrad Houman and his family, who were notified while preparing to travel to Minnesota.

Despite the long journey, Mehrad decided to drive 10 hours to Michigan for an emotional reunion with Mishka, who had disappeared from his workplace, but her collar helped officials find them. GPAAS shared the emotional story on Facebook and wrote, “This is a tale that Hollywood would love to tell. The dog gets lost and finds its way across the country. A conscientious family microchips their beloved pet. An unfortunate event happens with the dog being separated from them. A local resident makes the right decision. The synergy between a municipality and its local animal shelter shines brightly. The technology of the microchip reunites the long, lost pup with its forever family."

Reacting to the post, a user wrote, “Awesome. How wonderful! So important to have pets microchipped." Another shared, “So happy Mishka found her way home." “If only this dog could talk, what a journey," a comment read.

An individual wrote, “What a lucky, sweet dog! So happy they are reunited. Such a heartwarming story."

One more added, “Mishka’s story is a perfect example of the value of chipping your dog – without her chip, she wouldn’t be home now."

Meanwhile, in a conversation with The Associated Press, Corinne Martin, director of the animal welfare group said, “We think it was stolen and then it was sold and ended up in Michigan." While Elizabeth, Mehrad Houman’s wife stated that it has been an amazing experience. She never lost hope even though the search involved sticking over a thousand flyers and wearing Mishka’s leash while looking for her. Elizabeth even placed a flyer on her car’s rear windshield. Now that the dog has been reunited, she is curious to know the mystery of how Mishka ended up so far away from home.

After examining Mishka, the veterinarian, Nancy Pillsbury, found her to be in good health. Houman’s pet received a rabies shot and after that, she was declared fit to travel back to her home. Pillsbury claimed that whoever had Mishka took good care of her during her adventure.
