According to a report by Oddity Central, the name of the variety is Kinmemai Premium. It holds the Guinness World Record for becoming the most expensive rice in the world. This variety is rich in nutrients and is said to boost immunity. Kinmemai Premium is sold in 140 g packets, at around $120 per kg (approximately Rs 10,036). In 2016, it set the world record for being the most expensive rice with a price of $109 per kg (approximately Rs 9,116)
Kinmemai Premium is produced by Japan’s Toyo Rice Corporation. The selection of this exclusive rice features hand-picked grains from five varieties of Japanese rice. The segregation is done by a rice-buffing technology developed more than 17 years ago. It is nicely polished to remove the inedible wax layer and has a delicious nutty taste.
It is claimed that rice contains 6 times more lipopolysaccharides (LPSan, a type of immunity booster that helps a person to stay fit and healthy. It also has 1.8 times more fibre and 7 times more Vitamin B1 than the traditional rice we use in our household. Additionally, the Kinmemai Premium rice doesn’t need to be washed before cooking and has a mild sweetness and fragrance.
