Watch: Indian Mom Dries Clothes On Palm Atlantis Balcony, Hotel Responds
The video shows an Indian woman drying clothes on the balcony of an ultra-luxurious Dubai hotel.

Hanging wet clothes to dry on balconies and roofs is a complete “desi” thing. Almost every Indian household will have one such space to dry clothes outside, instead of simply stacking them in washing machines. While foreigners or hotels abroad usually resort to dry cleaning or laundry services, an Indian woman recently caught the internet’s attention for her “desi” hack. The woman named Pallavi Venkatesh shared a video of her mother, capturing the lady drying clothes on the balcony of a luxurious Dubai hotel.

The video shared by Pallavi also shows her mother meticulously hanging a pair of shorts on the balcony’s guard rail. The video then pans to other balconies, revealing similar sights. “Moms just momming at Palm Atlantis,” she wrote.

The clip went instantly viral, drawing diverse reactions from users. While some criticised such practices, others were seen explaining the logic behind sun drying. Besides, the Atlantis Hotel also responded to the video, offering the drying cord service. “Mom duties. We hope you enjoyed your stay! (We include a retractable drying cord in every bathroom, so that you can dry your clothing over the bath),” it commented.

A user wrote, “Cloths need sun drying…. If hotels don’t understand it, they are failing,” while another suggested that hotels provide hanging spot inside the balcony, “Hotel needs to learn and provide hanging spot inside the balcony. Maybe a drying rack or a few clothing lines that can be removed when not in need. Hotel’s fault, frankly. User Experience is an ongoing thing.”

“The problem with desi parents is the toxicity that whatever they do is right. That’s how our generation has been embarrassed by our parents all our lives,” one user remarked, while another commented, “This is bad manners in other countries. Respect the rules of the hotel that you are staying in.”

A section of users explained that people living in places like the UK and Italy dry their clothes outside. “Those who live in tropical climates and who live in places where there is plenty of sunlight do this. This is all science. People living in cold regions need dryers; we have the sun,” a comment read.
