Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit shared the incident on Instagram, alerting people about such events.

Marathi film and TV director Swapna Waghmare Joshi recently had an unexpected encounter after a thief entered her apartment on the sixth floor, only to be chased away by her pet dog. Known to be extremely loyal and have protective instincts towards their homes, the incident is a stark reminder of why one should have a pet dog. Sharing a video jointly on their social media handles, Waghmare, along with her filmmaker friend Ashoke Pandit, detailed on how the events unfolded inside her home around 3 AM at night. Pandit shared that he received a call from Waghmare to narrate the incident.

According to the post, the director, through the CCTV footage installed in her living room, saw that a young man, seemingly a thief, entered her house through an open window. While he moved around freely, looking for expensive items to steal, he even tried to enter one of the rooms, where her mother was sleeping. He even stole Rs 6,000 from the director’s daughter’s purse.

After some time, Waghmare’s pet dog was alerted by his presence and instantly raised an alarm, waking up her son-in-law at the right time. As soon as the family member chased him, the thief ran away the same way he entered the house. Calling it a “real crime patrol” incident, the post read, “This video is for all of us, especially senior citizens who live alone. You will be shocked to see how a thief climbs the 6th floor of the residence of noted filmmaker @s_w_a_p_n_a situated at (Lokhandwala complex Andheri West Mumbai) with the help of the pipes and jumps out the same way when he is noticed by the member of the house.”

The post also slammed the security guards at buildings. A police complaint has been lodged in the matter, and an investigation is underway. In the meantime, social media users expressed concern for the director. One wrote, “This is shocking! Take Care Tai,” while another commented, “Very shocking. Thanks for sharing this post.”

“What the helll…this is so scary,” a comment read. A user added, “Very bad and shocking. Watchmen usually sleep during the night shift. It is important to cover windows with grills. Thank god there was no major mishap.” People also called for better security services in such buildings.
