The match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings was momentarily interrupted on Monday after a fan invaded the pitch in an attempt to meet cricketer Virat Kohli. The young man raced through the pitch and fell at the foot of the former Indian skipper. As Kohli helped his fan to stand up, the security promptly escorted the fan away from the field. However, now a disturbing video has emerged that shows the fan getting beaten up by the security officials after he is brought away from the spotlight. In the video, the security officials in black shirts hit the man repeatedly before another man intervenes and stops the assault. The police are also present at the scene.
Now, this unverified video is doing rounds across social media. This video was posted on X by a popular account. It was captioned, “Before and After Meeting Virat Kohli kinda kalesh b/w The guys who invaded in field and Security Guard.” This video has over 6.6 lakh views since it was shared on March 27. While many expressed outrage at security officials beating up the fan, a few justified the security officials’ frustration by arguing that increasing instances of fans invading the pitch poses a serious security threat.

Commenting on it, an X user wrote, “Invading security is bad yes people already know the consequences but security is treating this person so badly is very wrong and he shouldn’t be treated like that so badly you guys better have did investigations and interrogation before doing that treatment. I don’t know what was the actual context and situation behind the off-camera scene. Being a fan of someone means this? that’s why never become a blind fan of someone and think firstly twice about your parents.”

Another person wrote, “It’s okay for the love of fans towards their fav. cricketer. In India fans treat cricketers like a God. If security officials beat him so badly just to meet his idol then that’s bad. Remember there’s no sport without fans.”

Expressing a different sentiment, an X user wrote, “what if that so called fan had some small sharp object with which he hurt the player? People should understand boundaries and just enjoy the game and leave or meet them in proper player-fan meet-ups (if there) under security control.”
