Former head writer of WWE Vince Russo has voiced that Roman Reigns could take some time off after WrestleMania 40. The Tribal Chief and multiple-time heavyweight champion, Reigns has operated on a limited schedule in his last few years with the company. He rarely shows up on weekly events and is currently preparing to defend his Universal Championship against Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania. Amid this championship match buildup, Rhodes is also involved in an ongoing Feud with The Rock.
Given the situation, Russo has stated that if this feud between Rhodes and the Rock stretches beyond WrestleMania, it would provide Reigns with a window to take time off. Speaking to Sportskeeda Wrestling’s Legion of RAW, the former WWE writer said, “That does give Roman the time off. If they go to Cody and Rock, that can give Roman the time off”.
Speaking further on the podcast, Vince Russo has claimed that The Rock is likely going to cost Cody Rhodes the title at WrestleMania 40 after which the duo would square off at SummerSlam.
“The Rock’s gonna screw Cody out of the title bro. Do you know how much heat? Do you know how much heat?” he could be heard saying in the interview.
Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns met face-to-face this past Friday on SmackDown. While there was no physical brawl in that segment, the American Nightmare was brutally beaten down by The Rock in the latest episode of RAW. The Brahma Bull viciously attacked Rhodes by sending him head-first into the exterior of a bus. Rhodes being beaten up in the rain was haunting as the American hero was left in a bloody mess at the segment’s end.
While The Rock’s antagonist/final-boss persona is eye-catching, he isn’t going to be in the main event of WrestleMania. The Rock will only be involved in a tag-team match on Day 1 of the ‘Show of The Shows’ where he will team up alongside his Samoan brother Roman Reigns to take on Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins.
Cody Rhodes had faced Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania 39 last year but was unable to beat the Tribal Chief on the biggest stage. Rhodes booked a second opportunity against the Samoan superstar in January this year at the Royal Rumble 2024. Competing in the men’s battle royal, Rhodes found himself in the final two alongside a returning CM Punk. The Chicago-born star eventually lost the match to Rhodes after which he asked the American Nightmare to finish his story this time. However, he has one hiccup in his way and that’s The Rock.
