The budget airline Indigo has joined the select club of global carriers after flying 100 million passengers in a year. The historic milestone was achieved in 2023, putting the airline in the top 10 largest carriers list across the globe in terms of passenger traffic.
The Gurugram-based airline, which has celebrated its 17th anniversary this year, also became one of the fastest airlines to achieve this number. In 2022, IndiGo managed to provide flying services to more than 78 million passengers on both domestic and international networks. This year the overall number has grown by 23 percent.

As per the details shared by PTI, the airline’s Chief Executive Officer Pieter Elbers reacted to the milestone, and said,” We are incredibly delighted to achieve this historic milestone, welcoming aboard 100 million passengers in a year. This milestone is also a validation of our strategy which has been executed so diligently.”
Meanwhile, over the last 6 months, IndiGo has been investing efforts to spread its network on both domestic and international routes. Recently, it has added more than 20 new international routes to its network, registering itself as the top airline globally.
The report says IndiGo has created a roadmap for business for the coming months. It aims to add international destinations like Bali, Indonesia, and Medina, Saudi Arabia its network, delivering massive growth in the most financially and environmentally sound way possible.
