The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway (NH-44) will experience a halt in traffic flow today.
The traffic department has not specified the reason for this suspension at various points like Nagrota, Jammu, Udhampur, Qazigund, and Kashmir, but an official from the civil administration mentioned it’s for essential repair and maintenance work.
No vehicles, including those carrying perishable goods, livestock, or security forces, will be permitted on NH-44 today, according to Greater Kashmir.
The suspension of traffic started Monday evening at Nagrota, Jammu, and Jakhani, Udhampur, affecting routes to Kashmir, Patnitop, Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, and Gool Banihal. Similarly, traffic from Jammu to Banihal, Ramban, Doda-Kishtwar, and Udhampur was also halted at Qazigund, Kashmir.
However, vehicles between Udhampur and Qazigund are being allowed to proceed towards Srinagar and Jammu, with traffic being managed along this stretch.
SSP Traffic National Highway Ramban, Rohit Baskotra, emphasized that only vehicles carrying patients or medical emergencies will be allowed on NH-44 between Udhampur and Banihal today. This closure is due to various maintenance tasks being undertaken.
Commuters are advised to plan their journeys considering the traffic situation, as maintenance work by NHAI contractors will lead to a dry day for traffic between Udhampur and Qazigund.
Traffic congestion was observed in several areas between Nashri and Banihal sectors until late Monday evening.
