Prithviraj Sukumaran, known for his striking looks and brilliant acting, exchanged vows with journalist Supriya Menon on April 25, 2011. The actor’s love story blossomed with a journalist, adding a touch of uniqueness to their union. Supriya Menon, a seasoned journalist with NDTV back then, found herself assigned to cover Malayali cinema.
Despite her limited knowledge of the industry, she sought assistance from a colleague who provided her with the contact of a rising Malayali actor – none other than Prithviraj. During a talk at the TiE Kerala Women Conference in Kochi, Supriya shared the tale of her initial encounter with Prithviraj, highlighting the interesting beginning of their connection.
“Fortunately, a fellow journalist came to my rescue. She provided me with the contact number of a young actor, advising me to reach out as he might assist. That single phone call ended up altering the trajectory of my life. Thanks to my friend’s introduction, I connected with my future husband, Prithviraj Sukumaran”.
Through that pivotal phone call, everything took a drastic turn. For Supriya, Prithviraj evolved from being just a helpful contact to a great friend. Despite her Mumbai base, she became Prithviraj’s tour guide, fulfilling his dream of exploring the city’s streets. In an interview with The Times Of India, Prithviraj shared how his perspective of Mumbai transformed through the eyes of his best friend, Supriya, eventually laying the foundation for their relationship.
“Despite being a Malayali, Supriya, a true Mumbai girl, had spent most of her life in the city. I saw authentic Mumbai through her eyes. It was Supriya who revealed to me facets of Mumbai I had never experienced. Desiring to explore places from the novel Shantaram, like Haji Ali and the Leopold Cafe, I turned to Supriya, a friend who willingly took charge of my life for the next few weeks,” said Prithviraj.
Their frequent trips to Mumbai laid the foundation for a relationship that grew stronger through their deep friendship. The city became significant for both as it was where their love story unfolded.
After four years of dating, Supriya and Prithviraj tied the knot on April 25, 2011, followed by a reception the next day. However, this step to marriage posed challenges, especially for Supriya’s successful career in Mumbai. Marrying Prithviraj meant a shift to Kerala and adapting to the dynamics of the film industry. Despite these considerations, she chose without hesitation, valuing Prithvi’s companionship over the stardom. Reflecting on her decision, Supriya once shared her thought process at that crucial moment.
After three years of marriage in 2011, they embraced parenthood and welcomed their daughter, Alankrita Menon Prithviraj, in 2014. The couple adores their baby girl, showering her with love.
