Bengaluru: Govt Employee Stabbed to Death at Her Residence, Probe On to Nab Accused
Bengaluru News: Police officials suspect that the accused might have been familiar to Pratima

An employee working under the Karnataka government was stabbed to death at her residence in Bengaluru’s Doddakallasandra on Saturday. The 43-year-old geologist — identified as KS Pratima — was a Deputy Director in the Mines and Geology Department of Karnataka.

According to officials, the accused broke into the victim’s house and fatally stabbed her, adding that the death was due to strangulation and throat slitting. Pratima was alone at home at the time as her spouse had gone to his hometown, Teerthahalli (Shivamogga district), for a visit.

Pratima was dropped at her home around 8 pm last night, following which there was radio silence on her part as her brother called her several times. When he came to check on her on Sunday morning, he found her dead.

Rahul Kumar Shahapurwad, DCP, South Division, Bengaluru City said that “Forensic and technical teams are at work on the spot. Three teams have been formed for investigation. We will be able to share further information, once we get to know exactly what happened.” Prima facie there is no theft of any jewellery or valuables, Shahpurwad added.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah — reacting to the incident — said the murder will be inquired into and the reason is not yet known “I just got to know about it. We will inquire into it. It seems that she was staying alone (in Bengaluru), while her husband was in his native village. The reason is not yet known, we will inquire into it,” he said.

A case has been registered in this regard and officials have said that efforts to track down the attackers are underway. It is suspected that the accused might be familiar to Pratima, officials noted.

Four days ago, a 32-year-old woman was stabbed to death in Maharashtra’s Thane by her nephew. However, her 11-year-old son managed to escape the attack by hiding in their flat’s bathroom.

The incident took place in a housing society in the Mira Road area in the afternoon, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone I), Jayant Bajbale.

The 22-year-old accused allegedly stabbed her to death with a knife and was nabbed by the residents while he trying to flee the scene. Though she was rushed to a nearby hospital by her neighbours, she was declared brought dead.

In September this year, a 24-year-old government employee was arrested for allegedly killing his colleague, wrapping his body in polythene and burying it in a vacant house in his neighbourhood in southwest Delhi’s RK Puram area, police said.

The accused was identified as Anish, who works at Survey of India and is a resident of RK Puram Sector-2.

According to police, victim Mahesh had loaned Anish Rs 9 lakh and was killed when he demanded his money back and berated Anish for splurging money on his girlfriend.
