Actress Tisca Chopra, recognised for her role in the acclaimed film Taare Zameen Par, recently opened up about her positive experience collaborating with Dharma Productions, one of Bollywood’s most renowned production houses. In a candid conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Tisca affectionately referred to the team at Dharma as “raja log,” a term that means rich people, here, indicating her admiration for the production house and its founder, filmmaker Karan Johar. Despite the industry’s perception that Dharma Productions may exhibit a certain amount of favouritism towards certain actors, Tisca expressed her deep appreciation for the production house and Karan Johar’s constant support for her work.
She recalled that Karan Johar had appreciated her for her work in Aamir Khan and Darsheel Safary starrer Taare Zameen Par. She also described the hit 2007 movie as an important milestone in her career that garnered her recognition and respect within the industry. “I think I am his favourite. He had loved Taare Zameen Par and he’s always been very encouraging, she said.
One aspect of Dharma Productions that Tisca particularly commended was their meticulous attention to detail and their commitment to providing a comfortable and supportive working environment for artists. She revealed that Dharma Productions goes above and beyond to cater to the needs of its artists, offering a plethora of options for every aspect of production.
For instance, if an artist requires four changes to their appearance, Dharma Productions provides them with forty options to choose from, ensuring that every detail is specifically curated to enhance the overall quality of the production.
“Everything is so organised in Dharma, everything is so smooth. There is a chill factor, if you need four changes (of looks) you’ll be given 40 options. I love them, raja log hai (they treat you like a king),” she said.
Tisca also recalled her delightful experience working with director Raj Mehta in Dharma’s comedy-drama film Good Newwz, where she shared the screen with acclaimed actors such as Akshay Kumar, Diljit Dosanjh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Kiara Advani. She praised the film for its lighthearted humour and stellar performances, also highlighting the friendliness and professionalism exhibited by the cast and crew throughout the filming process.
“What a film! If there is a mainstream, blockbuster funny film then it is a superb film to be a part of. I had first worked with Raj when he was an assistant in New York and I was doing a film, so he remembered to cast me for this,” the actress added.
In addition to her past experiences, Tisca also shared insights into her recent projects, including her role in the recently released Netflix film Murder Mubarak, where she shared the screen with Sara Ali Khan, Vijay Varma, Pankaj Tripathi and Dimple Kapadia.
