Mumbai: Mukesh Ambani's Antilia Commercial Pvt Ltd rushed to save its plot of land on Mumbai's Altamount Road, where the industrialist is building his 27-storey dream mansion.
The Ambani firm moved the Wakf Board to hear its version before the custodian of Muslim religious property takes control of the land. Replying to a notice from the Wakf Board, Antilia Commercial Pvt Ltd requested that its version be heard before any decision is taken on the issue, PTI quoted official sources as saying.
The Wakf Board had earlier served a notice on the firm on July 5, seeking the restoration of the 4,532-square metre property under Section 52 of the Wakf Act as it was acquired illegally. The board received the reply from the Mukesh Ambani firm on Tuesday.
The notice had given Antilia seven days to reply on why the Altamount Road plot should not be restored to the board as the deal was deemed illegal by the state government.
The state government had on July 3, dashed off a letter to the board, drawing its attention to the findings of an inquiry committee which had found "truth in the charges that the Altamount land deal was illegal."
The government had directed the board to proceed "as per Section 52 of the Wakf Act against Antilia," the sources said. Section 52 pertains to acquiring Wakf property in contravention of provisions of Section 51 of the Act, the sources said.
