India needed 2 runs to win when Harmanpreet looked to play the late cut right past the wicketkeeper. However, she failed to make a connection and while playing the shot she lost her balance and fell outside the crease before making her way back. Though the Indian skipper survived a stumping chance, she injured her neck.

After being attended by the team physio, she left the field holding her neck in pain, while there were tears in her eyes.

Later, Sajeevan Sajana Sajana walked in to replace Harmanpreet and sealed the game for India with a boundary. She lofted a widish delivery from Nida Dar over extra cover, handing India a 6-wicket win with seven balls to spare.

Harmanpreet missed the post-match interaction while her deputy, Smriti Mandhana, stepped in on her behalf. When former England captain and presenter Nasser Hussain inquired about the Indian captain’s injury, Mandhana provided an update, saying, “It’s too early to say anything. The medical team is assessing the situation. Hopefully, she’s fine.”

India struggled to reach the winning target losing four wickets with only seven balls to spare and the entire innings had five boundaries compared to Pakistan’s eight. Shafali Varma played 35 balls for her 32 while Jemimah Rodrigues consumed 28 balls while reaching a painstaking 23.

It was skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, whose 29 before getting retired hurt finally guided India to victory.
