'He is Somebody I’d Call a Left-handed Dhoni': R Ashwin Massive Praise For Rinku Singh
R Ashwin said he can't compare Rinku Singh with the legendary India wicketkeeper batter but he does call him a left-handed Dhoni sometimes.

Veteran India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin heaped massive praise on young batter Rinku Singh and compared him with legendary India wicketkeeper batter Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who was known for his match-finishing skills. Rinku has flourished in the finisher’s role for the Indian team since making his debut. The southpaw has made a very strong case for himself to make a place in the T20 World Cup squad.

The southpaw, who made his India debut last year, has been assigned the role of a finisher in the T20I set-up and he has been doing consistently well in the role.

Rinku also scored a sensational 69 runs* off 39 balls which was laced with 2 fours and 6 sixes to provide able support to his skipper Rohit Sharma.

Ashwin said he can’t compare him with the legendary India wicketkeeper batter but he does call him a left-handed Dhoni sometimes.

“He is somebody I’d call a left-handed Dhoni. I can’t compare him to Dhoni just yet because Dhoni is too big. But, I am talking about the composure that he brings. He has been consistently scoring buckets of runs for UP and broke his way into the Indian team,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel

Ashwin further revealed what he used to hear about Rinku when he joined KKR but didn’t get chances in the XI.

“He was on the KKR bench for many years. People used to tell me that, when he was at KKR, even though he couldn’t get the chance to bat at practice, he collected all the balls that batters hit in throwdowns and gave them back to the bowler,” Ashwin elaborated.

The veteran spinner suggested that Rinku maintains his composure while both batting first and chasing the target.

“Since then, he has been with the franchise for so long, put in the hard work for UP and showed that he’s always available to get to the Indian team out of a tricky situation or finish an innings. The composure doesn’t change whether the team is batting first or chasing. His composure towards the back end of the innings is a bonus,” the Indian bowler added.
