Ranji Trophy 2024: Prithvi Shaw Set to Return After Long Injury Layoff - Report
Prithvi Shaw will be a part of Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad for the next fixture against Bengal, starting Friday at Eden Gardens.

Prithvi Shaw is set to return after a long injury layoff. The right-hand batter will be available for Mumbai’s next Ranji Trophy fixture against Bengal, starting Friday at Eden Gardens. Shw had suffered a knee injury in August 2023 during his county stint with Northamptonshire which required him to go under the knife followed by a long rehabilitation process.

According to the Times of India, Shaw was given an RPT (Return to Play) certificate by the National Cricket Academy (NCA), notifying the BCCI about the development on Wednesday.

CricketNext on Tuesday reported that the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) was awaiting clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA), which was received the following day. Shaw has been in the NCA for months, doing rehab and following all the necessary recovery protocols.

The 24-year-old has already missed two white-ball domestic tournaments – the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Before getting injured, he had mixed results with the bat. He accumulated 595 runs in ten innings in the previous Ranji Trophy season, including a record 379-run knock off 383 balls against Assam. However, his inconsistency troubled him, which eventually reflected in the IPL as well.

He had almost found his mojo back when his bat started to talk in the English county. He scored 429 runs in four innings, including a record-breaking 244 off 153 balls against Somerset. However, the knee injury cut short his stint and the Mumbai lad was ruled out.

Mumbai will now have a 17-member travelling squad after Shaw’s inclusion. They are currently leading the Elite Group B Ranji points table with 20 points from four games, boasting three wins and a loss.

Mumbai squad: Ajinkya Rahane (captain), Shivam Dube, Prithvi Shaw, Jay Bista, Bhupen Lalwani, Amogh Bhatkal. Suved Parkar, Prasad Pawar (WK), Hardik Tamore (WK), Suryansh Shedge, Tanush Kotian, Atharva Ankolekar, Aditya Dhumal, Mohit Awasthi, Dhaval Kulkarni, Roystan Dias and Sylvester Dsouza.
