The current captain of the Bengal Cricket team vented his frustrations about India’s premier domestic first-class cricket championship, the Ranji Trophy.

Tiwary who also holds the position of the Sports Minister of West Bengal took to X where he posted,” Ranji trophy should be scrapped off from the calendar from the next season onwards. So many things going wrong in the tournament. So many things need to be looked into to save this prestigious tournament which has a rich history. It’s losing its charm and importance. Absolutely frustrated.”
It remains unclear as to why the Bengal captain posted this. Currently, he is leading the Bengal team up against Kerala and the side is currently at 172/8, trailing by 192 runs in the first innings. Jalaj Saxena bowled brilliantly for Kerala having picked up seven wickets in the first innings to put Bengal on the back foot.

Earlier in August, Tiwary had reversed his decision to retire and has since featured for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy for the ongoing season. Since this decision, he has gone on to score a brilliant century which came against Assam in Guwahati as Bengal went on to win their first game of the season by an innings and 162 runs.
Tiwary is a reputed veteran in the first-class format having scored over 10,000 runs in the format to go with 29 hundreds and 45 half-centuries. Under Tiwary’s leadership, Bengal also reached the semifinals of the Ranji Trophy 2022-23 and ended the season as the runners-up.

Despite his lack of chances for the national side, he was one of the regular performers in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and was part of the Kolkata Knight Riders squad that won the trophy in the 2012 edition under Gautam Gambhir’s captaincy.
