Team India skipper Rohit Sharma was visibly frustrated as Sarfaraz Khan was run out by Mark Wood after making a brilliant 62 runs for the team’s cause in just 66 deliveries on his debut.

The Indian captain threw his cap in frustration after a miscommunication between Ravindra Jadeja and Khan led to the latter’s unceremonious dismissal when India were at 314 runs for the loss of four wickets.

Jadeja, who was nearing his century, decided to send Khan back after he had started the run as the left-hander’s on-drive went straight to the hands of Wood at mid-on, and the Englishman capitalised on the momentary gaffe to send Khan, who was in sublime touch back to the dugout.

India managed to put up 326 runs for the loss of five wickets at stumps on day 1 of the third Test at Rajkot after winning the toss and opting to have a bat first.

England had a good start to the game as they managed to dismiss Yashasvi Jaiswal for just 10 runs as Wood picked up his first wicket of the day.

The visitors made further inroads as they sent Shubman Gill back to the hut for a duck, before getting rid of Rajat Patidar shortly after as the Indians were languishing at 33 for the loss of three wickets.

However, skipper Rohit and star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja steadied the innings with some brilliant batting as the captain brought up his ton. The 36-year-old added 131 runs to the side’s tally before being scalped by Wood.

Then came Khan’s blinder, who was unfortunate to have been dismissed in the manner he was after having played a peach of an innings.

Following the dismissal of Khan, Jadeja went on to complete his century and remained unbeaten at stumps on the opening day of the third Test, with Kuldeep Yadav, unbeaten on 1 run, at the other end.
