Jasprit Bumrah, leader of India’s pace attack, asserted that rotation policy was the reason behind Mukesh Kumar’s inclusion in the playing XI for the second Test match against England. Mukesh replaced Mohammed Siraj who was released from the squad for the Vizag Test to manage his workload.
Mukesh, who made his Test debut last year on the West Indies tour, had a forgettable outing with the ball in the first innings against England.
India played with two pacers at Vizag, Bumrah claimed a six-fer, while the Bengal pacer bowled 7 overs and gave away 44 runs at an economy rate of 6.3 and remained wicketless.

However, senior pacer Bumrah backed Mukesh after the day’s play and he is new to international cricket and suggested that rotation policy was the reason behind his inclusion.
“Can happen to anyone because he’s just starting to play international cricket. He’s just starting to play Test cricket. Obviously, we have a lot of confidence in him. This is a long series. Obviously, you have to rotate players,” Bumrah said in the press conference.
Bumrah came in support of Mukesh and said in cricket everyone makes mistakes and has bad days and it’s important to learn from them.
“So that is the mindset, I think. But obviously, you always learn by making mistakes. You get better than making mistakes. So that’s how cricket is. It gives you the answer to the questions. So that’s how it is. I don’t look at it as a bad day. It’s just a learning day. Everybody’s made mistakes. Even I made mistakes,” he added.
Bumrah also shared what message will be given to Mukesh after an off day with the ball.
“That is the conversation that we’ll have that okay, that day has passed. Now we move forward now. You can’t change whatever has happened in the past. Focus on what we can do better. What are the things that he’s thinking. So all these conversations we keep on having and trying to give our best,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Indian vice-captain said that it is important for players to be fresh in a long series like the ongoing one against England which is why the team management has adopted the rotation policy.
“As I said, that it’s a long series, we have a few fast bowlers and you have to rotate bowlers because this is a five-match series. You want everyone to be fresh. It’s going to be an interesting series. So that is why I feel that the rotation theory was there,” he concluded.
