Watch: Ben Foakes Bizarrely Collides With Stumps Before Crashing on the Ground, Avoids Freak Injury
Fortunately, Ben Foakes didn't sustain any injury and had a smile on his face after he fell on ground.

A bizarre incident occurred during the opening day of the first Test match between India and England at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. England wicketkeeper Ben Foakes somehow managed to avoid an injury while he ran through the stumps in an attempt to receive the ball.

It was the third over of the Indian innings when Rohit Sharma flicked the ball towards the deep square leg where Ollie Pope grabbed it and threw it towards the wicketkeeper’s end but it wasn’t very accurate. Foakes had to make a run to receive the ball and on the way, he collided with the stumps and then fell on the ground.

Fortunately, he didn’t sustain any injury and had a smile on his face.

After spinners put England batters through a harsh scrutiny, Yashasvi Jaiswal rolled out his own version of ‘Bazball’ en route to a crushing fifty as India posted 119 for one to take the upper hand on day one of the opening Test here on Thursday.

At close, Jaiswal (76 batting, 70 balls, 9×4, 3×6) and Shubman Gill (14 batting) were at the crease and the hosts are 127 runs in arrears of England’s anaemic first innings total of 246, which was built around skipper Ben Stokes’ hardheaded 88-ball 70.

England captain Ben Stokes hit a defiant 70 to round out an attacking innings, with India’s spinners holding the tourists to 246 on day one of the opening Test on Thursday.

Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin took three wickets apiece after England elected to bat first at the start of the five-match series in Hyderabad.

England lost regular wickets until Stokes took charge and lifted the total, before the skipper was bowled by paceman Jasprit Bumrah as the final wicket after tea.

Stokes reached his fifty with a six off Jadeja and put together key stands with debutant Tom Hartley (23) and Mark Wood (11). His 88-ball knock included six fours and three sixes.
