London: Christian Benteke scored from two penalties on Saturday as Aston Villa stunned Arsenal 3-1 at Emirates Stadium in their Premier League opener to increase the pressure on manager Arsene Wenger to spend big in the waning days of the transfer market.
Arsenal had a perfect start when Olivier Giroud scored in the sixth minute, tapping in a pinpoint cross from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from close range.
But Benteke equalized in the 22nd, heading in his own rebound after his penalty was saved by Wojciech Szczesny. The striker then slotted in a second penalty in the 61st.
Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny was sent off in the 67th for a second booking and Villa hit the Gunners with a quick counter attack in the 85th, with new signing Antonio Luna securing the win by slotting a shot past Szczesny.
