London: West Ham picked up a rare home point by battling out a 0-0 draw against Aston Villa on Saturday in the Premier League. The game was short on entertainment value but ended a run of three straight home league losses for Sam Allardyce's team. Villa striker Christian Benteke came closest to breaking the deadlock when his second-half header struck a post.

West Ham have now gone 375 minutes without a goal at Upton Park and has scored just eight goals in 10 league games. Benteke also had a left-foot shot go just wide after being deflected by a defender, and West Ham midfielder Joe Cole could have snatched a late winner if his shot had not been smothered by Brad Guzan.

Stoke goalkeeper Asmir Begovic scored with a kick across the length of the pitch after just 13 seconds, but it was not enough to secure a much needed Premier League win for his team as Southampton came back to earn a 1-1 draw .

On a windy day at the Britannia stadium, Begovic scored almost immediately with a kick from his own area that bounced before flying into Artur Boruc's goal. Southampton leveled in the 42nd minute as James Ward-Prowse crossed the ball from the right for Jay Rodriguez to head it home for his third goal in his last four Premier League appearances.

Saido Berahino scored just before halftime and Gareth McAuley added a late goal to give West Bromwich Albion a 2-0 win over last-place Crystal Palace.

The 20-year-old Berahino controlled a cross from Stephane Sessegnon to put his team ahead in the 44th minute. Mile Jedinak and Marouane Chamakh both wasted chances to equalize in the second half before McAuley scored in the 83rd to ensure a seventh consecutive league defeat for Palace.

Hull ground out a 1-0 victory over nine-man Sunderland on Saturday after the visitors picked up two red cards at the end of the first half.

Hull took the lead after 25 minutes, courtesy of an own goal by Sunderland's Carlos Cuellar, who headed home under pressure from Yannick Sagbo. Another setback followed when Sunderland goalkeeper Kieren Westwood had to be replaced by Vito Mannone in the 43rd minute due to a neck injury.
