Johnny Depp Shoots 'Modi' With Al Pacino, Filming Begins In Budapest; Deets Inside
Johnny Depp is set to return as a director after almost three decades with the film Modi.

Johnny Depp has donned the director’s cap after 25 years, for his next big project, a biopic that will explore the story of Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani in Modi. Starring legends like Al Pacino and Luisa Ranieri, the film has gone on the floors in Budapest, Hungary. It is interesting to note that his first directorial stint was with ‘The Brave’ featuring Marlon Brando.

As per a report by Firstpost, Modi will be set in Paris, in the backdrop of World War 1. The story will take place within the ambit of 48 tumultuous hours and it will show Ranieri as the owner of the Italian cafe, where Modigliani used to frequent, to chase his painting endeavour. On the other, Al Pacino will be essaying Maurice Gangnat, an international art collector. Besides Al Pacino and Luisa Ranieri, Modi will also star Antonia Desplat, Stephen Graham, Bruno Gouery, Ryan McParland, Benjamin Lavernhe, Sally Phillips and Matt Wolf.

Modi is bankrolled by Al Pacino and his longtime friend and manager Barry Navidi and it is all set to be shot in Italy, after their first schedule in Budapest. This is Johnny Depp’s second project after the infamous 2022 Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard defamation, since the Pirates Of The Carribbean star had headlined Maïwenn’s ‘Jeanne Du Barry’ as Louis XV.

Earlier, it wqs revealed that the film will be based on a play penned by Dennis McIntyre. The play is being adapted for the screen by Jerzy and Mary Kromolowski. The film will explore painter and sculptor Modigliani’s time in Paris in 1916. The film will be set in the time frame of two days wherein the artist goes through turbulent and eventful incidents involving the police.

The film’s producer Barry Navidi had told Deadline, “This is a snapshot of Modigliani’s life that gives us insight into his struggle as an artist suffering from lack of recognition, and a project Al (Pachino) and I have pursued for many years. Our incredible cast, coupled with the vision, wit and sensitivity I know Johnny will bring behind the camera, will make this a dream come true.”
