CHENNAI: M Mahadevan, a Chennai-based restaurateur opened the second outlet of Copper Chimney on the campus of the Spastics Society of Tamil Nadu recently. In keeping with the practice followed over the years, Copper Chimney launched the restaurant by hosting a charity dinner, at which the notables and socialites of Chennai were present. The proceeds of the first evening’s collections was approximately `2 lakh including the amount gained by auctioning the two pieces of art created on the spot by well-known art director, Thotta Tharani. The proceeds were donated to the Spastics Society of Tamil Nadu. Kannagi Packianathan, IAS, participated in the inaugural event and lauded both Spastics Society of Tamil Nadu and also Copper Chimney for their efforts to bring in the spastic children into the mainstream. Indira Dutt, President, the Spastics Society of Tamil Nadu delivered a vote of thanks. M Mahadevan, also stated that the inauguration of the restaurant in the Taramani campus will enable students of the Spastics Society to be trained in various job roles and help them emerge as employable candidates. “We as a group have always seen our self as committed to the development of the society at large. This initiative of Copper Chimney will enable the students to acquire skills and help them make some active contribution to their families” he added.
