The nation-wide anti-nuclear movement and signature campaign, launched by CPI(ML) on March 11, the Fukushima Day concluded here on Monday, the Hiroshima Day. As part of the valedictory function, a meet was organised at High Court Junction in the city.
On Monday, over a thousand people signed the memorandum prepared against various nuclear power projects coming up in the country including Koodankulam in Tirunelveli, Jaitapore project in Maharashtra and two other upcoming projects in West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh.
So far, over 15,000 people have signed memorandums at various meetings held at Aluva, Angamaly, Piravom, Vypeen and West Kochi.
“There are vested interests behind the sudden spurt of nuclear projects in India. For them nuclear power is the only means to achieve progress. But we are determined to fight against the powers that would destroy the nature and its life,” said P N Provent, state secretary CPI(ML).
Inaugurating the valedictory function and signature collection at the High Court Junction, G Sadasivan Nair, former head of the Law Department of the Cochin University of Science and Technology, said the Central Government is speeding up signing various nuclear-based power projects and industries at a time when developed nations in the West and the East including the US, Russia and Japan have started issuing wind-up notices to its various plants. Which is undoubtedly proving to what extent India is committed to its people and their health, especially the children.
“The signed memorandums are being sent to the International Co-ordination of Revolutionary Parties and organisations based in Germany and from there to the United Nations Organisaton in Geneva,” said C G Biju, CPI(ML) district secretary.
