New Delhi: A 12-year-old student allegedly committed suicide at his home in north east Delhi's New Usmanpur area after he was scolded by his parents for poor performance in school during a parent-teachers meet, police said on Sunday.
The boy Harsh Vardhan, a student of Class 6, hanged himself in the bathroom of his house in Brahmpuri area of New Usmanpur area on Saturday.
A mobile phone has been recovered in which he had written a message about being depressed, said a senior police officer.
The parents of the deceased boy said that they had attended a parent-teachers meet along with him where complaint of his poor performance was made by the teachers.
They scolded him in the meeting for this in front of his friends and teachers which disturbed him, preliminary police enquiry revealed.
Father of the boy, Mandeep told police that after coming back home, he refused eating anything and went to bathroom. He spent unusual time inside the bathroom and did not come out even after they called for him.
Suspecting something wrong, the bathroom door was broken open and Harsh was found hanging from a rod.
Immediately, he was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
The police is trying to find out the exact reason behind the drastic step taken by the boy and believe that he had typed the text message in his mobile phone before committing suicide.
The parents and school teachers are being questioned as an inquest has been initiated to determine the circumstances under which the boy committed suicide, said the officer.
His body was sent for autopsy and later handed over to his parents, he added.
