Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday reviewed the progress, made at Central Government level, to various proposals, submitted by the State Government during the current financial year, in New Delhi.
The Centre is yet to take a decision on the State Government’s proposal to raise the number of seats for admission into MBBS course from 150 to 250 in three Government medical colleges.
The Chief Minister had taken up the issue with Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad during former’s visit to Delhi in May. He had further requested Azad to sanction funds for upgradation of the three medical colleges to AIIMS-like institutions under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY). The State Government has also requested the Centre to release its share of funds for establishment of a Regional Institute of Paramedical Sciences in Bhubaneswar. Meanwhile, the State Government has identified a site for the proposed institute.
Proposals to set up a National Cancer Institute in the City and a Regional Geriatric Centre at SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, are also pending for approval of the Union Ministry.
The Chief Minister reportedly sought to know progress of various proposals submitted to the Agriculture Ministry. During his May visit to Delhi and discussion with Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, the Chief Minister had requested him for a Central Agriculture University to serve the needs of Odisha, particularly KBK.
A number of projects relating to flood management like construction of dams, minor irrigation projects, lift-irrigation points and repair and restoration of water bodies are pending for clearance by the Technical Advisory Committee for sanction of funds for quite sometime. The Chief Minister sought to know the progress achieved so far.
The State Government had also submitted proposals to the Union Ministry for Tourism to improve rail and air connectivity to facilitate travel of both national and international Buddhist tourists to Odisha.
Union Minister for Tourism Subodh Kant Sahay assured Naveen that he would take up the matter with Ministry of Railways for introduction of a special train to cover Buddhist circuit in Odisha.
The Chief Minister had requested the Centre recently to declare Biju Patnaik Airport here as an international one in view of the requisite infrastructure available in the State Capital.
The Chief Minister also reviewed status of proposals concerning ministries of Culture, Environment and Forests, Consumer Affairs and Food and Public Distribution.
Principal Resident Commissioner SK Bhargava and other senior officers of the State Government were present.
