The Election Commission has asked the Jharkhand government to remove Dumka Superintendent of Police Nirmal Kumar Mishra.

The Election Commission has asked the Jharkhand government to remove Dumka Superintendent of Police Nirmal Kumar Mishra.

Jharkhand police headquarters had earlier recommended suspension of Mishra as he was found guilty of negligence in deployment of forces in Dumka district April 24, the day the third and final round of the Lok Sabha election was held in the state.

The same day, Maoist guerrillas detonated a landmine that killed five security personnel and three poll staff when they were returning from a polling station.

The EC has asked the Jharkhand government to send the names of three IPS officers for selecting the new Dumka SP.

"The state government has been asked to remove Dumka SP," Jharkhand Chief Electoral Officer PK Jajoria told reporters here on Monday.

He said "the state government has to decide what action could be taken against the Dumka SP".

Jharkhand police chief Rajeev Kumar April 30 sent a report to the state government recommending suspension of and departmental proceedings against Mishra on charges of negligence.
